Hi, happy spooky season! What is you favorite Halloween motif? Mine is Frankenstein, and maybe UFO’s. Last week when I was coming home from the hospital everyday I found the skeletons everywhere a little unnerving, but I guess that’s the point. As an adult I never used to dress up for Halloween, but last year I dressed up as Haaland, and I’m planning to revisit that costume this year. (The inspo for this look was Russ, my 9yo, saying that my hair made me look like 25yo Haaland!)
Last night my mom and I drove down to San Antonio for an exhibition of my aunt Janny’s paintings at the Overland architecture firm. It was great to see so many of the paintings up and in the mix with the busy architecture work. Janny called it a retrospective since some of the paintings were from 20 years ago, and it was exciting to see them together. I am always intimidated by architects, though—so chic, such attention to lines and space. I attempted an all-black architect-inspired ensemble, but it’s just not me! I need a lot of color and whimsy, apparently. Here are some photos from the show.

Speaking of art, I may or may not have recently experimented with graffiti. There is an abandoned Burger King in our area that my kids and I walk by on the way to school, and, for about 9 months, one wall has said “BLOODLUST” on it. There’s also a ton of graffiti on the other walls, but only “bloodlust” and “corpse” on the wall that we pass each day. I love, love, love graffiti, and I appreciate creative self expression, but I felt like I had had enough of “bloodlust” after so many months. So I may or may not have taken steps to beautify this. And I may or may not go back and add some Marimekko style tulips at some point.
I recently experienced a romance novel hangover, so I haven’t been reading as much romance over the past couple of weeks. However, I did read the ideal coda/companion read to All Fours by Miranda July, which is Colored Television by Danzy Senna. So good. Blue Light Hours by Bruna Dantas Lobato also just came out and it is really moving and will make you cry.
Finally, have you heard the expression anxious millenopause? Not since ‘blursday’ became a word in 2020 has a more exciting expression entered the lexicon!! Hope you have a fun weekend!

P.S. I’m thinking of starting a new section of this newsletter called “Journal Club” with short medical topics that are in the news. (Examples: GLP’s/ozempic, “bioidentical,”IUD’s, etc.) Thoughts? Let me know!
P.P.S. Lots of amazon commission links here, thanks for your understanding.
Yes to the journal club section!
LOVE IT!
